Report reaching 9News Nigeria today has it that the former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings (J.J Rawlings) has passed away early morning on Thursday 12th November 2020.

According to the information made available to 9News Nigeria from a close source, the ex-president died of illness that was worsened by Covid-19 infection at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Jerry John Rawlings is a former Ghanaian military leader and subsequent politician who ruled the country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979. He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana.

He was born on June 22nd 1947 and died after his 73rd birthday.

Jerry Rawlings carried out the political revolution that led to the killing of many politicians thereby ushering in a new political dispensation that is still going on in Ghana today.

He left behind his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and five children: Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Kimathi Rawlings, Amina Rawlings, Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings, Ezenator Rawlings.

JJ Rawlings will be remembered for today’s new Ghana.
