Breaking: Former UN chief, Kofi Annan is dead at 80

Accra Ghana (9News Nigeria) – Former United Nations secretary general, Kofi Annan has been announced to be dead by a foundation named after him.

Kofi Annan Foundation in their statement made public in Ghana, announced that the former UN chief passed away in Switzerland today, Saturday 18th August 2018.

He was the first and only black African that has served as the United Nations’ secretary general. For his humanitarian works and effort to maintain peace in Africa and around the world, he was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize.

During his tenure that lasted from 19997 to 2006, Kofi Annan was known for his roles in fostering development of HIV/AIDS cure and preventive measures.  He was also known for his effort to prevent the Iraqi war.

In their own words, Kofi Anna foundation described him as “a global statesman” praising him for his love for humanity.
