Yet-to-be identified assailants, on Sunday morning, set the Orsu Local Government Headquarters ablaze.
The incident occurred at about 2:30am in the already troubled vicinity now abandoned for fear of gunmen and insurgency.
A source who pleaded anonymity said that several buildings including the Local Government and chairman’s office were burnt down as well as parked vehicles in the premises.
According to him, the council headquarters had been abandoned by staff and visitors due to the activities of unknown gunmen and killings in the area.
According to the source, young men have abandoned the area for their own safety, saying killings assumed an alarming dimension which forced locals to move their loved ones out to safety.
Efforts to reach the Imo State Police spokesperson, Michael Abattam, and the state’s Information Commissioner, Chief Declan Emelumba, proved abortive as both didn’t pick the several calls put across to their known GSM lines.
Orsu LGA is one of the 12 local government areas in Imo West (Orlu) senatorial zone which has come under serious attacks of unknown gunmen.
