Unknown gunmen have attacked the headquarters of Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area in Imo State on Tuesday night, September 3, killing two vigilante members and setting vehicles ablaze.
9News Nigeria gathered that the gunmen stormed the secretariat around 8:30 p.m., shooting sporadically, which led to the deaths of the security personnel on duty.
Eyewitnesses reported that parts of the council building were also set on fire during the attack.
One eyewitness recounted the horror, “Two security men at Isiala-Mbano council headquarters have been shot dead. The hoodlums also set ablaze a larger portion of the council building, and several vehicles parked on the premises. Many others escaped with various degrees of injuries.”
The incident has triggered widespread panic in Umuelemai, the local government headquarters, with many residents fleeing to nearby villages out of fear.
The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the attack and stated, “The command has deployed tactical teams to apprehend those responsible for this crime.”
The situation has left the community in shock as authorities work to restore order and track down the perpetrators.
