BREAKING: National Grid Collapses for Sixth Time in 2024, Causing Nationwide Blackout

Nigeria has been plunged into darkness once again as the national grid collapsed on October 19, 2024.

This marks the sixth grid failure this year, further highlighting the instability of the country’s power infrastructure.

The collapse affected electricity distribution across the country, leaving millions without power.

The Nigerian System Operator’s data revealed that by 7:00 p.m., the grid had dropped to zero megawatts, causing all 22 generation companies to go offline.

As of the time of reporting by 9News, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the collapse or plans for restoring power.

This latest grid failure follows a series of collapses that have occurred throughout the year, raising concerns among citizens, businesses, and industry stakeholders about the reliability of the nation’s electricity system.
