(SOE-9News NG) – The INEC National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has reaffiemed that the EDO state governorship election shall hold on the dates earlier scheduled.
This information was announced by the National Chairman during a news conference at the INEC headquarters.
The announcement therefore negates earlier speculation that the commission had shifted the scheduled date of the Edo state governorship election following Security warnings by the DSS and Police.
The DSS and Police had days ago announced their suggestion that INEC should postpone the scheduled gubernatorial election due to security threats from suspected miscreants. However the security warning and suggestion from the DSS and Police were seen by the PDP members as politically motivated and effort to delay the election in order to create advantage for the opponents, APC party.
