A two – storey building under construction in Amikwo, Awka in Anambra State has collapsed, 9news Nigeria has learnt.
According to report, though no life was lost, building materials worth millions of naira were wasted in the unfortunate incident.
The first floor of the two storey building sank into the ground, while the remaining portion fell and is leaning on a neighbouring two storey building with occupants.
According to accounts of eyewitnesses who spoke to the ABS on the condition of anonymity, the building collapsed around 2:00 am with a loud bang which made neighbours to run out in inquisition.
While crediting reason for the collapse to poor mixture and reinforcement, they said that for fear of the unknown, many of them stayed outside till morning.
Meanwhile, the Managjng Directornof Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa revealed that the building which has being slowly going on for the past ten years, had been marked since 2018/2019.
He said that after being sealed, the developer agreed to do it himself, but ended up doing it the wrong way, in the process of which there was partial collapse.
While appreciating God that there was no casualty, Venerable Okwuosa stressed that there are many such buildings which have being marked by their engineers, saying that the agency always rely on their report to take necessary actions.
