The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has described today’s Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency bye election as fraught with irregularities such as ballot snatching, violence and impunity.
In a statement issued by Prince Bode Ogunmola, State Publicity Secretary, accused the state government of using security agencies to disrupt election in some areas of the state capital.
The PDP said State government officials were given cover of the Police, particularly SARS, to protect political thugs who snatched ballot boxes, called for the outright cancellation of the exercise.
The PDP particularly fingered the Kogi State Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja, for using security agencies, and thugs to disrupt election in some units in Lokoja.
The PDP particularly said with the cover of security agencies, thugs carted away ballot boxes snatching boxes in Paparanda, St Mary Primary School, Adankolo and Bishop Crowther units.
The PDP said the bye election was characterised with vote buying, adding that the election was compromised faults the credibility of the election.
The PDP said it has however reported its complaints over the matter to INEC and Security agencies to note the irregularities it observed in the election.
