Nigeria Senate on Tuesday adjourned seating till the 12th of March, 2019 to enable lawmakers participate in the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections slated for 9th of March.
The development followed a motion moved by the Senate leader, Ahmed Lawan, stating that lawmakers need to concentrate on the elections.
“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, as you can see, some of our colleagues are unavailable because they need to participate in the next elections. ”
“I want to submit that we adjourn till after the gubernatorial elections slated for 9th March so that we can reconvene on 12th, I so submit sir.”
Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda seconded the motion, explaining that it was important for the lawmakers to participate, hence, there was no need they stay behind.
Meanwhile, the Senate reconvened on Tuesday after a recess that allowed them back to their constituencies to participate in the national elections.
Elections have been held which was won and lost. Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki who lost his bid to come back, however, presided over Tuesday’s plenary for about 30 minutes.
