President Bola Tinubu has sacked Mohammed Bello-Koko as Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and appointed Abubakar Dantsoho as his replacement.

In his press release, Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale stated that Tinubu expects the new leadership to improve port services and industry outcomes.

This change comes less than two years into Bello-Koko’s tenure, which began under the Buhari administration.

Dantsoho holds a Doctorate degree in Maritime Technology from Liverpool John Moores University in the United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in International Transport from Cardiff University in Wales.

Prior to his appointment as NPA Managing Director, Dantsoho had served in various roles within the Nigerian Ports Authority, including Assistant General Manager, Technical Assistant to the Managing Director, Port Manager of Onne Port, and Principal Manager of Tariff & Billing.

With his extensive experience and impressive academic credentials in the maritime sector, Dantsoho is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to drive forward the mission of the Nigerian Ports Authority and enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the country’s port operations.

In a related move, former senator Adedayo Adeyeye has been named chairman of the NPA board.

Adedayo Clement Adeyeye is a Nigerian politician who belongs to the All Progressive Congress (APC) party. He is a former Minister of State for Works and a former Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District.

The maritime sector awaits the impact of this unexpected leadership shift on Nigeria’s port operations and economy.
