Soldiers under the watch of Lieutenant Ibrahim Bello in Taraba State have reportedly killed one Ibrahim Usman Manu a father of ten in Dan Ancha area of Gassol Local Government.
According to Abdul Usman Jasman, brother of the deceased said they were on their way back home from a visit in Jalingo when he decided to pass the night at the deceased place, the following morning, Manu was hijacked from his place of business at Kasuwan Doya by two soldiers to their military camp where he was beaten to death.
The following morning after he was arrested by the Army, we heard his dead body was dump around Tiv speaking, if not for people who saw the military guys when dumping the dead body, it may have resulted to a heavy crisis between the Tivs and Hausas, but we all say that its was an extra-judicial killing by the army, we don’t even know what to do because nobody is talking us and we want justice. We are also scared of what might happen to us because we are been threatened.”
Before his death, effort by the brother and wives of the deceased to know the whereabout of Manu proved abortive as a soldier by name Farouq Muhammad told them that he’s no longer in the military camp.
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, a human rights activist, Comrade Saleh A Babayo called on the Nigerian Army Lieutenant General, Yusuf Buratai to look into the case and let justice take its cause.
His words “Armies are expected to protect lives and properties of citizen but here reverse is the case. We are urging the Defense Headquarters under #Gen_T_Y_Burtai to constitute a special committee to look into this unfortunate incident and do justice to the Orphans.
Efforts to get army authorities in the area speak on the incident proved abortive as at time of filling this report.
