President Buhari has again told NIGERIANs his mind on the no- going -back -order given by the Central Bank CBN to stop the usage of old Naira Notes as a legal tender.

Recall that both the Red chamber and the Green chamber requested for a six-month extension of the deadline which was turned down by the CBN.

For clarification, the Senate has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to extend the withdrawal date of the old naira notes from Jan. 31 to July 31.

Senate President

The upper chamber also urged the CBN to open an exchange window where people that don’t have bank accounts to deposit their old notes to do so.

The senate’s resolutions were sequel to a motion by Sen. Sadiq Suleiman (APC-Kwara) during Tuesday’s plenary.

Though the bill was seriously opposed while waiting for the final decision in the next plenary.

For Sen. Sam Egwu (PDP-Ebonyi) who was the only senator who opposed the motion, “Nigerians do not have the culture of keeping their money in the bank.

“It is in Nigeria where cash is used arbitrarily; other countries use electronic means.

“Nigerians are just averse to change,” Mr Egwu said.

People have applauded the decision of President Buhari after the senate plenary on Tuesday and that of CBN governor who is hellbent to stop the issuance of old Naira Notes with effect from 31st January.

CBN Governor Emefiele

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, yesterday declared that the January 31, 2023 deadline fixed by the apex bank for the return of old N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes would not be extended.

Emefiele, rather, urged those who might still be holding on to the old banknotes to turn them in, assuring them they would not be harassed by the anti-graft agencies.

The CBN Governor’s comment came just as the Senate and House of Representatives members urged the banking sector regulator to extend the deadline.

The Political class are the worst heat in this order so that they will not intimidate the electorates with money in the upcoming elections.

The elections are counting few days from the Scheduled time by INEC and it will interest my readers to know that the stage is set for the Campaigns.

Coupled with insecurity situation in the country and that of change of New Naira Notes the Politicians are not happy with the development.

Election Campaigns are on a low key for the reason of the unknown. Public gatherings are scanty in the Red prone areas and Election sensitization is low particularly at the grassroots where Killings and abduction are high.

However, this will be a good record to the NIGERIAN Government under President Buhari for regulating the currency flow through the introduction of New Naira Notes.

But Buhari has also shown himself to be a sincere and descent personality than being a politician the system has painted him differently.

In this video going viral on Social media, the president has maintained that: https://fb.watch/ii5H_3DvlN/👇

“Time was given from October to December, three months for NIGERIANs to whatever money they have get exchange through a legal system. I don’t know why people are complaining about it”

Buhari stated categorically that there is no going back to the old currency as ordered by CBN.

But reactions from the people at the rural communities where sensitization is very low are pleading for extension of date to enable then return their old currency for the New Naira Notes.

“My interest is for NIGERIANs to know that we respect them as an administration.

“Nobody will be allowed to mobilize resources and thugs to intimidate NIGERIANs in every Constituency”

“Vote Whosoever you like from whichever party at the elections, this is what my adminstration want to hold hand and record in the Nigerian history, President Buhari stated.

With the foregoing statements by His Excellency President Mohammadu Buhari is not as bad as the people around him has made him.

In the contrary, some notable politicians who spoke to us and wouldn’t like their names to be mentioned publicly have stated in confidence that the 2023 elections will be the best interesting and most costly and that money will still exchange hands whether Exchange of News Naira Notes or not.
