The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, has unveiled an ambitious 2025 economic agenda focused on diversification, innovation, and collaboration.
Speaking at the 59th Annual Bankers Dinner of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) on Friday, Cardoso lauded the progress of recent reforms and the resilience of Nigeria’s banking sector.
The CBN announced mentorship and capacity-building programs to equip young Nigerians with transformative skills.
Cardoso urged banks to enhance financial intermediation and tailored solutions to empower businesses and manage risks effectively.
The Governor celebrated Nigeria’s thriving fintech ecosystem, citing its role in advancing financial inclusion and global investment.
He revealed plans for 2025 initiatives, including implementing an open banking framework, expanding contactless payments, and scaling up regulatory sandbox programs.
Cardoso also directed customers facing cash withdrawal challenges to report directly to the CBN from December 1, 2024.
