Less than six months after guiding Chelsea to Club World Cup success, Enzo Maresca had left his post as head coach, the club announced on Thursday.
The Blues won just one of their final seven Premier League matches under Maresca and sit fifth in the table with 15 points adrift of leader Arsenal. On December 12, 2025.
A statement on Chelsea’s website on Thursday said the decision was taken with team’s ongoing ambitions in mind.

“During his time at the club Enzo led the team to success in UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the club’s recent history and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change of getting the season back on track.
The club extended well-wishes to Maresca, thanking him for his contributions.
The separation follows weeks of speculation over Maresca’s future after reports emerged that he was considering stepping down from the role amid growing internal tensions.
On December 12, 2025, Maresca was named Premier League manager of the month for November.
Just one league win followed in December but it was not only results that added to the focus on Maresca, with fissures emerging between the Italian tactician and the club hierarchy.
However, the Club did not specify who would take charge ahead of Sunday’s match against second-placed Manchester City.
