Civil Rights Activist Arrested for Allegedly Beating Wife to Death in Rivers State

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Civil Rights Activist Michael Chidozie on Wednesday. He is accused of fatally beating his thirty-two-year-old wife, Ufuoma Chidozie, in the early hours of Tuesday night, March 5th, 2024, in the Agip axis of Mile 4, Obio/Akpor local government area. SP Grace Iringe Koko, the command’s spokesperson, stated that Chidozie, also a Sunday school teacher at a Redeemed Christian Church of God Parish, has been apprehended and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Port Harcourt, for discreet investigation.

Friends of Ufuoma allege that Chidozie had been subjecting his wife to daily beatings without provocation. After Ufuoma succumbed to injuries sustained from the alleged assault, Chidozie fled the scene, contacting the deceased’s brother and urging him to come to the house, claiming an emergency. Upon arrival, the brother discovered Ufuoma’s lifeless body but found Chidozie absent.

The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday morning by police personnel attached to Agip Police Division, Mile 4, Port Harcourt, following credible intelligence. The remains of the deceased have been deposited in the mortuary pending further investigation.
