The Federal Government has revealed that the President of Nigeria earns ₦14,058,820 per year, including allowances, while the Vice President currently earns an annual salary of ₦12,126,290, inclusive of allowances.
This disclosure comes as part of efforts to increase transparency around the remuneration of public office holders.
The figure covers both the President’s and Vice President’s basic salary, allowances, and other official entitlements under the approved remuneration structure.
This marks a slight adjustment compared to previous years.
For instance, under the 2007 Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) template, the President’s total annual package was set at approximately ₦14 million, while the Vice President earned about ₦12 million; figures that have seen only marginal changes over the past decade and a half.
The revelation comes amid renewed public scrutiny over the cost of governance, with many Nigerians calling for a downward review of salaries and allowances for top government officials in light of the country’s economic challenges.
The Federal Government has pledged to maintain a transparent remuneration process.
