Despite the order from Ebonyi State Government that schools, tertiary institutions, and churches should close in order to curtail the spread of the deadly Coronavirus, members of different church denominations on Sunday attended mass service in the State.
9news Nigeria correspondent who monitored how the order will be obeyed in Ebonyi State reports that the church members defied the order, while some insist that coronavirus has not entered Nigeria, others said that God will not allow them to contact the disease.
Speaking with 9news Nigeria correspondent, a member of a Catholic Church said “yes, we heard about the disease but I strongly believe that God will not allow me to contact the disease. So, that’s why I attended church today. We need to fight the disease spiritually and physical”.
Another member said “This is the first time I heard that the disease has entered Nigeria. I don’t even know what the disease is all about. In all, we need to give God praise.”
Igbere TV recalls that on Saturday, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) confirmed 10 (ten) new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria.
The ministry made the announcement via a release signed by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire.
According to the ministry, there are three new cases in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and seven new cases in Lagos State.
This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 22.
However, the disease has not entered Ebonyi State but in a bid to curb the spread of the disease, Governor David Nweze Umahi ordered Ebonyians to avoid gatherings of more than 50 persons.
