Critics have condemned a political rally organised by supporters of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The rally was held on the same day former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi buried his mother.
One of the critics described the development as “wickedness,” arguing that the timing was insensitive and disrespectful to the bereaved family.
The critic said Nigerian culture demands respect for the dead, adding that political differences are often expected to be put aside during burial ceremonies.
“To deliberately schedule a loud political rally in the same LGA, on the same day, while a man is burying his mother is a direct insult to our ancestors, to our culture, and to God,” the critic said.
The critic also described the situation as a personal issue, citing the long-standing relationship between Wike and Amaechi.
Wike served as Amaechi’s Chief of Staff when Amaechi was governor of Rivers State.
The critic argued that Wike could have sent his condolences, attended the burial or simply avoided holding a political event in the area on the same day.
The rally was also described as “political wickedness,” with the critic alleging that its timing was a deliberate show of political strength.
“This is politics without conscience. Power without humanity,” the critic said.
The statement accused Wike of turning political engagement into personal vendettas and power struggles.
It argued that leadership should be about empathy, restraint and humanity rather than attempts to humiliate political opponents.
“Nigeria deserves leaders with heart, not leaders with a wicked soul,” the statement said, while praying for the repose of Amaechi’s late mother.
