AWKA (9News Nigeria) It was a black Saturday in Ebenebe after a cult gang on a revenge rampage disrupted the burial of a fellow cult member and opened fire on innocent mourners.
No fewer than 16 people who were at the funeral venue of a man known as Ozor Chibuike were killed on the spot after a gang of cultists invaded a funeral ground and opened fire on mourners.
The incident happened on Saturday, 26th February 2022 at UmuOgbuefi village in Ebenebe town, Awka North local government area of Anambra State.
In an amateur video shared on the 9News Nigeria WhatsApp platform, the coffin of Ozor Chibuike was scattered with his body thrown on the ground while scores of dead bodies were seen lying all over the funeral venue.
9News Nigeria gathered that one Ozor Chibuike Joseph Chukwuka who was 34 years old belonged to a cult group and had participated in the murder of rival cult members before he was shot and killed on the 30th of December 2021 at a police checkpoint in Amansea, Anambra State.
A close family member revealed that the rival gang members had sent a warning notice to the deceased’s family to avoid giving a befitting burial to the murdered cultist or to face the wrath of the gang.
It was also revealed that a Reverend Father in the community had also warned the family members and friends of the deceased to avoid gathering at the funeral because he sensed that the cult gang may strike.
However, in defiance of the warnings, the family of Ozor Chibuike Joseph Chukwuka went ahead to organise a funeral service of their killed son, but the service was bloodily disrupted when the cult members invaded the venue and opened fire on mourners killing no fewer than 16 people and injuring many.
