Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Monday, had a very successful meeting with the Managing Director/CEO of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, Chiedu Ugbo on possible ways to improve power supply to the State.
In a statement made available to 9News Nigeria by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Francis Nwaze, said the outcome of the meeting was the agreement to commence the reconstruction of the Abakaliki-Afikpo 33KV line.
According to him, “the Abakaliki-Afikpo 33KV line is a new line that will replace the one that was the only source of supply to Ebonyi South until it was vandalized some years back.”
“Part of the outcome of the deliberation also is that the contractors will mobilize to the site immediately as the line is expected to serve as one of the means of evacuating power from the ongoing Amasiri 132/33KV substation.”
“Mr. Chiedu equally explained that Amasiri-Uburu 33KV Line 1 (33km long) dedicated to Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital complex and the Ebonyi South Industrial cluster with 2*15MVA 33/11KV injection substation and Amasiri-Afikpo-Oziza 33KV (22km long) and Tee-in to the Amasiri 132/33KV substation which will serve Afikpo urban and environs have been captured in their budget which will commence soon.”
“Also at the meeting, Mr Ugbo expressed the intention to upgrade the existing New Heaven-Nkalagu 132KV transmission line to a higher capacity conductor that will carry up to 280KW of power.”
“The above will no doubt improve the power supply to Ebonyi State from the National grid.”
“It is the candid expectation of Governor Umahi that there would be a total improvement in power supply to Ebonyi State, especially now that the state has got major developmental infrastructures that will need constant power supply to work effectively .”
