~ Stops The Compulsory Requirement Of N.I.N For Jamb Examinations .

~ As Senate Mandates The Federal Min.Of Education , Jamb and Nimc To Review The Implementation Of Policy

The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah On Tuesday through a motion of urgent importance brought the plight of students preparing for the upcoming Jamb Examination to the attention of his colleagues in the Senate .

The Senator who came under order 42 and 52 lamented the untold hardship that prospective students are being exposed to due to the introduction of the National Identity Number (NIN) as a compulsory requirement for the Jamb registration

He called the attention of the Nigerian Senate to the wide spread hardship that young , promising and cerebral Nigerians are currently facing as a result of the decision of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to include the National Identification Number (NIN) as a precondition for registration of UTME candidates in 2021 .

He reminded the Senate that JAMB initially attempted to start the implementation of this same policy last year but had to postpone it due to the technical problems that bedevilled the process of obtaining NIN from the National Identify Management Company (NIMC) . He emphasised that since the same situation has persisted since then , the decision by Jamb to go ahead this year with the implementation of this policy was to say the least cumbersome and highly detrimental to young ones in search of educational progress

Continuing during his submission , the Senator lamented the fact that the long queues at the designated NIMC centers is a testament to the fact that the technical hitches are yet to be addressed .

“Sustaining this policy will amount to infringement on the right to education of these young Nigerians majority of whom may not be able to meet the deadline to obtain their NIN and register for JAMB.” The Senator concluded.

The motion was seconded by the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Mrs Uche Ekwunife.

The Senate unanimously adopted the motion and resolved as follows;

1 , Mandate the Federal Ministry Of Education , JAMB and NIMC to review the implementation of the policy with a view to extending the JAMB registration deadline or suspending this requirement until there is a seamless and well organised process for obtaining the National identity Number .

2 . Urge the Federal Ministry Of Educations and NIMC to introduce/streamline A simple and decentralised NIN registration process where students would be able to obtain their NIN in their various accredited school premises….
