The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has uncovered and dismantled a suspected internet fraud training centre, popularly known as a “Yahoo academy”, in the Federal Capital Territory.
Operatives carried out a sting operation at Becki Estate in Karu, Abuja, leading to the arrest of 31 suspects, including two alleged kingpins and several trainees undergoing cyber fraud tutorials.

During the raid, officials recovered multiple items such as mobile phones, 18 laptops, and other digital devices believed to have been used for fraudulent activities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the recruits were allegedly lured from Benue State with promises of legitimate jobs, only to be confined within the facility and trained in internet fraud.
Reports indicate that their movements were restricted, phones seized, and strict control measures enforced to prevent contact with the outside world.
Authorities also disclosed that the training environment involved harsh conditions, with some recruits reportedly subjected to physical punishment to enforce compliance. The anti-graft agency confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, as efforts continue to crack down on cybercrime networks across the country.
