The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has rejected a letter inviting it to an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the ruling party.
With this development, the plot to remove the chairman of the APC, Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, may have suffered a great setback with INEC travelling in the opposite direction saying the party didn’t give 21 days’ notice required by Electoral Act.
INEC has maintained that they will not honour any official letter issued by any other signatory other than that of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
9News Nigeria had reported how the Niger State Governor Sani Bello dramatically stepped into the office of the caretaker chairman on Monday in what many perceived as a fresh crisis in the APC.

In another twist of heightened crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party, there were ostensible indications that the embattled National Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC, Governor Mai Mala Buni had on Thursday officially sent a letter handing over power to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello also known as Lolo.
In confirmation, the Kaduna State governor, El-Rufa’i while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said that Buni will no more return as the party’s chairman, but can still return as the Governor of Yobe state if he so wishes.
El-Rufai said that Sani Bello already has the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari and 19 APC governors.
