Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd), has declared that the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu has been “sufficiently achieved” following the restoration of democratic governance at the grassroots level.
Ibas made this known on Friday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, during a presentation of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) report on the just-concluded local government elections.
He noted that Tinubu’s instruction was clear: To restore order, reestablish democratic institutions, and stabilize the state after months of political tension.
“With the peaceful conduct of local government elections and the swearing in of elected chairmen and councillors across all 23 LGAs, I can confidently say the mandate has been achieved”, Ibas stated.
It will be recalled that on March 18, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a six months state of emergency in Rivers State to forestall a political crisis.
The move resulted in the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all the State Assembly.
