Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at Orchard Farm owned by the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, was killed by a mother hippopotamus, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

It was gathered that the animal may have perceived the deceased as a threat to its baby, leading to the attack in self-defense.

The 60-year-old Maiyaki was attacked while fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village in Yauri Local Government of the state.

“Maigadi has been buried according to Islamic rites in Yauri, after a funeral prayer,” said the Chairman of the Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu.
