A former adult film actress, Deyci Alejandra Omana Ortiz, has been sworn in as a Senator in Colombia after winning election on platform advocating greater rights and legal protections for workers in adult entertainment industry.
Ortiz, widely known by stage name, Amaranta Hanks, will represent Colombia’s Norte de Santander region as member of the leftist Historic Fact’s coalition during the 2026 -2030 parliamentary term.
According to Colombian media reports, she secured the Senate seat after placing 23rd on the Historic Pact’s closed party list in the March elections.
The Historic Pact is currently Colombian’s strongest political force. Data from the county’s National Registry shows the bloc won 22.72% of the Senate vote, garnering more than 4.4 million ballots and security 25 seats.
Omana, who transitioned from journalism into adult film industry before returning to public life, has maintained that her past should not overshadow her ability to serve as a lawmaker.
According to Infobae Colombia, she believes women who have worked in the sex industry contribute significantly to the country’s economy and deserve legal recognition rather than continued stigma.
Responding to critics who questioned her suitability for public office, Omana said in a Tok Tok video: “Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office”, she asked.
Born in the city of Cucuta, Omana said her legislative agenda will also focus on mental health and combating sexual abuse.
Her election marks one of the most closely watched developments in Colombian politics in recent years.
The development comes months after her appointment, alongside fellow adult performer Juan Carlos Floran, to a deputy ministerial role in Colombia’s Ministry of Equality — a move that sparked controversy within President Gustavo Petro’s administration.
