The political landscape of Imo State is once again at the helm of affairs in the Southeast, and at the center of it stands a familiar figure; Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, former Governor and ex-Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In a bold and definitive move, Ihedioha has officially declared his alignment with the much highlighted opposition coalition, African Democratic Congress (ADC), indicating a new chapter not only in his personal political journey but also in the wider political calculus of Imo and beyond.

“My party, your party, our party is now ADC,” he declared to enthusiastic supporters at his Civic Centre residence.

He also addressed key leaders of his Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM) saying, “That is the way to go.”

The declaration, though widely anticipated, has triggered a surge of speculation: Will Ihedioha contest again?

What is clear is that Ihedioha is not walking this path alone. His Rebuild Imo Movement, a grassroots political structure with presence in all 305 wards and across the 27 LGAs of the state, remains intact, energized, and loyal.

He urged RIM leaders to carry the ADC banner to their zones, wards, and communities, calling it a “people-oriented” project rooted in mass mobilization.

This is somewhat the tone of re-engagement, and quite possibly, a prelude to a comeback.

Yet, Ihedioha remains deliberately vague about any immediate electoral ambition.

There was no direct mention of a governorship run, a Senate bid, or any federal ambition.

But Nigerian political watchers know better.

In the ever-evolving game of power, especially in the Southeast, such declarations often come wrapped in calculated silence and strategic groundwork.

Obviously, the ADC, while not yet one of Nigeria’s largest parties, offers Ihedioha a clean slate and a chance to rebuild, at least on his own terms.

As the dust settles on this political shift, the question remains; is Ihedioha preparing to contest in 2027?
