A previous statement by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, rejecting any appointment under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resurfaced after President Bola Tinubu appointed him Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on October 15, 2025, Fayose said he had no interest in joining Tinubu’s administration and would rather remain at home than accept a government appointment.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain revealed that Tinubu had once asked what position he would like, but he declined the offer.

“Have you seen me taking an appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir.’”

He added that after serving two terms as governor, he had no desire to return to public office.

“At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do. I’ve served well. Two-time governor, I’ve done well.”

Fayose also clarified that his long-standing friendship with Tinubu did not translate into political affiliation, insisting he remained outside the APC.

Despite those remarks, President Tinubu on Monday appointed Fayose as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency.

The appointment was announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as part of 26 new appointments into the boards and leadership of 10 federal government agencies and commissions.

According to the Presidency, all the appointments take immediate effect.
