Former Kano State Governor and ex-Senator, Kabiru Gaya, has agreed to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His decision followed a closed-door meeting with APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, at the chairman’s residence on Yaounde Street in Abuja on Monday night.
The meeting reportedly lasted about 45 minutes.
A source familiar with the discussion confirmed that Gaya accepted to rejoin the ruling party.
The move comes just days after he reportedly lost the NDC senatorial ticket for Kano South, despite recently joining the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gaya left the APC on April 5 before briefly joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He later moved to the NDC alongside former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He served as Kano State Governor between 1992 and 1993 during the Third Republic and represented Kano South Senatorial District in the Senate on the APC platform from 2015 to 2023.
In the 2023 general election, Gaya lost his bid for another Senate term to Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
