While speaking, the acting rector, Dr Christopher Onyemelonu briefed the traditional Ruler, his cabinets and the entire Umudibia Community of his recent appointment as the acting rector.

Dr Onyemelonu reiterated his commitment to work with the community as his predecessors did while promising to ensure that the cordial social corporate relationship the institution and the host community had enjoyed since its inception would remain strong and even get stronger during his time as the acting rector.

While appreciating the community for their efforts in promoting peace, serenity and security within the Polytechnic community, Dr Onyemelonu pointed out that the effort will be sustained and supported .

He however appealed to the Eze and his subjects not to relent in supporting the Polytechnic and coming to her aide whenever they are called upon.

In his reaction, HRH Eze Godwin Onyewuchi Merenini (Dibia 1 of Umudibia) thanked the acting Rector and the school management for coming to familiarize with the community.

He further appreciated Dr Onyemelonu for making his palace and Umudibia Community his first point of call upon assumption of office, in his words that shows that the acting rector has got the interest of the host community at heart.

His royal highness reassured the acting rector and his entourage of the community’s commitment to further protecting the lives and properties of Polytechnic staff, students, Umudibia people and all of Umudibia residents.

In his words, “Security is a general phenomenon and should cover for everyone in a particular locality”.

He also reiterated that the community in their capacity and in whatever way they can, shall continue support the Polytechnic community as long as the institution is doing the right thing as enshrined in the laws of the land.

Eze Merenini charged the incoming rector of the prestigious institution, Dr Onyemelonu and the school management to kindly take his subjects working in Federal Polytechnic Nekede as one among their best sons/Daughters and give them the necessary support they’ll be needing to climb even farther in the academic career.

The Youth President of Umudibia Autonomous Community, Onyekachi Kalu while giving the vote of thanks, thanked the traditional Ruler of Umudibia autonomous community and the Federal Polytechnic entourage for making such day a memorable one.

He further appealed to the FEDPONEK management to carry Umudibia Youths along in the scheme of work as recorded by the Publicity Secretary of Umudibia Youth Organisation, Okoro Wisdom Uche.

Recall that Umudibia Autonomous Community is an independent entity originally carved out from the old Nekede community which comprises of the three arms of Umualum, Umudibia and Umuoma.

But presently the three arms are now enjoying their respective autonomous status as individual communities from Nekede Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State Nigeria as 9News Nigeria investigative team reports.

In extension, Federal Polytechnic Nekede have other two wings to capture and also recognize as hosts which are traditionally and legally recognized arms of Nekede. They are Umuoma autonomous community Nekede and Umualum Nekede ancient kingdom with different traditional rulers namely; HRH Eze Morrison Soronnadi Eke-PhD and HRH Eze Dr Stephen Agumanu as my investigation reveals.

Therefore, the Nekede people in large are expecting the incoming Rector of the prestigious Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Dr Onyemelonu to as a matter of importance extend his courtesy visit to Umuoma and Umualum respectively.
