The federal government, on Monday amended the charge against nine suspected terrorists who allegedly attack Yelwata in Benue State, where about 150 people were killed.
The suspect where brought before Joyce Abdulmalik, judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja on Monday.
At the commencement of the proceedings, Lateef Fagbemi, Attorney-General of the Federation, told the court that a 57-amended count had been filed against the defendant.
The amended charged marked: FHC/ABJ/CR//471/2025 was filed on January 20, 2026.
Fagbemi prayed the court to strike out the name Yakubu Mamman a defendant, leaving the remaining nine to take to their plea.
There was no objections from the defence lawyers, including Ibrahim Angulu, A.I Kaura and Adamu Abdullahi.
The suspect led terrorists were alleged to have carried out the attack on June 13, 2025, where burnt down, and about 150 people were massacred, while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
The suspect include: Ardo Lawal Mohammed, Muhammed Saidu, Haruna Abdullahi, Yakubu Adamu, Muhammed Musa, Abubakar Adamu, Shaibu Ibrahim, Saleh Muhammad, and Bello Jibrin.
In June 2025, gunmen attacked the Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, killing scores and leaving hundreds displaced
The incident sparked a major protest and widespread condemnation.
However, security agencies announced that they had arrested some people in connection with the attacks.
