The Federal Government has announced a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycls, popularly known as Keke Marwa, in the Lagos-Cakabar Coastal Highway.
The restriction, which takes effect this week, was disclosed by the Federal Ministry of of Works in a statement issued by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr.Olufemi Dare.
According to Dare, the decision was taken to protect the nearly constructed superhighway from misuse, abuse from premature deterioration, thereby preserving the intergrity of massive infrastructure project.
The Federal Controller also warned that indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the highway and bridges would no longer be tolerated.
He explained that the new restrictions apply not only to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway but also to all bridges across Lagos State.
The Ministry urged motorists and transport operators to comply strictly with the directive, stressing that the measures are aimed at ensuring safety, maintaining traffic order and safeguarding critical road infrastucture for long-time use.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the multi-billion naira coastal highway project and ensuring that all road users adhere the regulations guiding its use.
