INEC: A call has gone to the Federal Government to as a matter of importance, invest more funding on INEC to enable it give the country the best of service.
Our correspodent reports that, during the process of Election, there was delay on arrival of Election officers for lack of availability of Vehicles and identification of Newly created polling units.
For instance at one of the polling units visited, the electoral officers ie the Presiding Officers of Election came some hours behind Schedule, 9News Nigeria reports.
When calls was put across the local government area INEC officers, they told us that all their officers have left the council headquarters for onward procession to the place of assignments.
Supprisingly, majority of the electoral Officials missed their ways to the polling units while others told us their ordeal behind the camera.
“We cannot locate the location of some units because there was more polling units created by INEC.
“Electorates were relocated though INEC said text messages accompanied such relocations to inform the affected of their new polling booths but it was difficult for many people to identify their new polling units.
” Vehicles chartered to convey our work materials to the polling centers are not in good condition. Some spoiled while coming and caused our late arrival.
“Majority of the New polling units were not identified and people kept moving from polling unit to polling unit until we established our materials and voting commenced.
“Again due to the inability of the BVAS machines to transmit results, some of our Officials were held hostage at collation centers by the agents of Political parties insisting that the results be transmitted before we proceed to the Local Government collation centers.
“It was a horrible experience but people complied with the rules of INEC to cast their votes freely and responsibly.
Meanwhile, INEC are expected to have good branded official Vehicles across the local government areas to convey officials to and fro the polling units.
Our correspodent gathered that Vehicles were hired and paid to convey officials to the units and equally bring them to the take-off points but most of the Vehicles wasn’t in good condition to contain the availability of funds released.
A call in the right direction is for the government to invest more on INEC while improving the system to adapt to the recent technological upgrades.
Also NIGERIANs are not suppose to expect a hundred percent perfection on the Launch out of the BVAS first use at an election like this.
Challenges on an election like this ranges from delivery of wrong materials to late arrival of officials.
Reports has it that the 2323 elctions were conducted in a peaceful and conducive atmosphere as many states witnessed Visible presence of security agents and International observers.
There is need for serious improvement to better the country and render desirable services in subsequent polls while waiting for INEC final declaration of the 2023 presidential Election winners.
