The Federal Government has announced that it is working with international partners and deploying all available resources to secure the safe release of 47 teachers and students abducted from schools in Yawota and Ahoro Esienle communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, disclosed this on Thursday at the commissioning of the renovated 154-bed Premier Hotel in Ibadan.
Akume assured residents of Oyo State and the South-West region that the government was intensifying efforts to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other forms of insecurity affecting communities across the country.
He stated that every possible measure, including collaboration with international security partners, was being explored to ensure the abducted victims return home safely.
The SGF appealed to Nigerians to support security agencies by providing useful information and strengthening cooperation with authorities, adding that traditional leaders and religious institutions also have important roles in maintaining peace.
According to him, national development and economic growth depend largely on a secure environment where citizens, businesses and investors can operate without fear.
Akume said the administration of President Tinubu had continued to strengthen Nigeria’s security framework through improved intelligence sharing, better coordination among security agencies, increased use of technology and support for the armed forces.
He added that ongoing constitutional reforms aimed at improving policing structures across the country would be implemented after completion by the National Assembly.
The SGF maintained that the government’s security measures were yielding positive outcomes in some areas and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Nigerians, investors and visitors can live and conduct their activities in a safer environment.
