Goodluck Johnathan canvases for laws to stop any court to declare one a winner in an election

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC should order for fresh election after thorough investigation of reported irregularities instead of allowing the court override the will of the people expressed through the ballot box, the immediate past President said.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is canvassing for passage of a law to stop any court from declaring one a winner in an election. He disclosed this today Monday April 12, 2021, in his Abuja residence while addressing journalists.

According to the former Nigerian President, “It has become awkward and worrisome that instead of voters, the courts now decide winners in our election. This is an aberration and a bane to the Nigerian political system. Politicians now hide under the cover of the courts to subvert the will of the people. This has to stop”

GEJ said the ballots should be the only determining factor of who wins an election.

He concluded that if a candidate is not satisfied with a process, INEC should investigate and order for a fresh election.
