Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has directed all 27 Local Government Area Executive Chairmen in the state to hand over the affairs of their respective councils to the Directors of Administration and General Services (DAGS).
The council chairmen are expected to complete the handover before the close of work on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The directive follows the postponement of the Imo State local government elections, which were initially scheduled for September 26, 2026.
The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) had fixed the election to fill 27 chairmanship and 305 councillorship positions across the state’s 27 local government areas.
The order affects all 27 Local Government Areas of the state and is expected to facilitate a smooth transition in the administration of the councils.
