Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni has commissirated with victims of fire disaster that devastated the state’s capital Damaturu.
Describing it as sad and unfortunate, he said he received the news with shock in on Tuesday morning.
The fire incident happened on Tuesday morning at Bayan Tasha, a business area in the city.
“This fire incident is sad, most unfortunate and ill timed considering the economic hardships faced by the people,” Buni said.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesman Mohammad Maman, his principle has equally directed Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) to assess the damages and estimated value of losses caused by the fire.
Similarly, he governor has directed the Fire Service Department to always be on standby against possible outbreaks in view of the windy season.
“l have directed the State Emergency Management Agency to take stock of the number of shops, traders affected and the estimated value of loss” Buni said.
While consoling the victims, the governor said they should accept the disaster as their faith and that it is with the knowledge of their creator.
However, Buni called on the people to always take proactive measures against fire outbreaks especially as the cold harmattan season sets in.
“We have had very sad experiences of fire outbreaks in the past in homes, shops and other places of work, we should adopt measures against fire outbreaks to safeguard lives and property” he said.
Fire outbreaks is a recurrent incident in Yobe State, especially during harmattan period.
The state has recorded many cases of fire incidents in recent years.
According to several reports in recent years, Yobe is one of the most hit state by natural disasters in Nigeria, which includes flood disasters.
