The Yobe Executive Council has approved over N40 billion for several capital projects across key sectors in the state.

Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, made this known while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the council meeting presided over by Gov. Mai Mala Buni on Wednesday in Damaturu.

Bego said the Council approved N1.7 billion for the construction of office complexes to accommodate five state agencies.

He said the Council also approved N962.65 million for the construction of a dedicated office building for the Yobe Investment Company Ltd.

Bego added that in its efforts to boost commercial activities, the Council also ratified approvals for the development of modern markets across various local government areas.

He said the approvals for the markets include “N2.7 billion for the Machina Modern Market, N3 billion as variation for the Geidam Modern Market, and N3.9 billion for the completion of the Potiskum Modern Market.”

The council further approved N6.1 billion for the establishment of a Central Motor Park in Damaturu, along with N248 million for the first phase of remodeling and upgrading the Yobe Line Terminus in the state capital.

Bego also said that N3.8 billion was approved for the procurement of agricultural inputs to support dry season farming, while N480 million and N1.3 billion were ratified for the purchase of 490 and 1,412 solar-powered water pumps respectively for irrigation farmers.

The council, according to him, also approved N5.3 billion for the procurement of NPK 20:10:10 fertilisers for the 2025 farming season.

“In addition, N396.92 million was approved for the reconstruction of a collapsed water control gate in Alagarno village of Bade Local Government Area.

“The sum of N1.4 billion was approved for construction works in selected health facilities and training institutions, while N1.23 billion was ratified for the procurement of medical and laboratory equipment for secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities.”

The commissioner said that in the area of roads, several contracts were approved including N1.25 billion for the 5km Daya-Fadawa road and N4.38 billion for the 18.5km Mashio-Ngelzarma road.

Others according to him are N671 million for the 2.5km Nahuta-Ngojin road, and N5.3 billion for the Damaturu-Gambir road project.

“To promote job creation and entrepreneurship, the council approved N442 million for the procurement of 100 complete barbershop equipment sets and N233 million for 50 sets of hairdressing salon equipment.”

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to healthcare delivery, Bego revealed that the council approved for the absorption of 110 midwives, 54 Community Health Extension Workers, and 258 Community-Based Health Workers already recruited under the Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII).

“These wide-ranging approvals reflect Governor Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to improving infrastructure, strengthening public services, and boosting livelihoods across the state,” the commissioner added.
