Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni is set to join the Senate race for Yobe Zone A after the Political and Public Office Holders Association of the district purchased Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for him.
Representatives of the association presented the forms to Buni in Damaturu on Wednesday, formally kickstarting his bid for the Zone A Senatorial seat.
Spokesman of the association, Hon. Aji Bularafa, said members made personal donations to purchase the forms, stating the move was intended to keep Buni in public service after his tenure as governor.
“This is to ensure that after your tenure as governor, you should continue serving the people in a capacity of a federal legislator,” Bularafa said.
Minister of Police Affairs and former governor Ibrahim Gaidam, who chairs the state Critical Stakeholders Forum, commended the association for endorsing Buni and purchasing the forms.
Governor Buni thanked the association and people of Zone A for the gesture. “I cannot thank you enough, and I pledge to continue serving our people diligently,” he said, according to a statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.
The purchase of the forms positions Buni as a contender for the Senate ahead of the party primaries.
