AWKA (9News Nigeria) – Parents in Anambra State have hailed the governor of the state once again as he announced a free compulsory education for Anambra children of school age.
The governor made the announcement during one of his official visits to the schools in the state in an effort to ensure grassroots implementation of his effective educational policies.
While visiting the Premier Primary School Obosi, Governor Soludo said education from the Early Childhood Care and Development Education, ECCDE, to Junior Secondary Schools, JSS, is free and compulsory for school-age children in the state.
According to a report by the ABS, the governor’s announcement was in line with his bid to actualize the vision of an all-inclusive education for the state, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced free and compulsory education in Anambra public schools.
He stated that henceforth no child within the education range would be charged school fees or any other fees to acquire education in the state.
Governor Soludo maintained that children of school age would no longer be deprived of access to quality education, adding that core community schools would be upgraded to smart schools in line with his vision of imparting skilful and sustainable education.
He stated that machinery would be put in place to ensure that free and compulsory education is effectively stepped down in the state, adding that his administration would not look kindly on anyone who fails to comply with the pronouncement.
9News Nigeria learnt that the governor also dolled cash prizes to all the top three students in the last term examination in the schools he visited.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced that students in senior secondary classes in all public schools in the state will not pay any fee or levy that is totalled about N5000 with effect from this first term.
Governor Soludo also visited Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha to interact with students of the school where he announced cancellation of school fees and levies in public schools.

Governor Soludo took a tour of the facilities in the schools visited and promised the rehabilitation of infrastructure in the public schools in the state. He promised that public schools in Anambra would become a model under his leadership.
Noting that children of the poor need access to quality education, Governor Soludo described education to be the equalizer between the rich and the poor. He reassured his commitment towards quality-based education in Anambra geared towards building human resources that will be productive at home and exportable abroad.
He noted that his mission is not just to fix infrastructure in the public schools but also interested in the learning outcome in schools owned and managed by the government.
Noting that quality education is key to achieving a livable and prosperous Anambra State, Governor Soludo said that free education is necessary to allow every Anambra child the opportunity to quality education. He warned that no fee or levy should be paid by any child in Anambra from this term.
The Governor called on the communities, parents, students and other stakeholders to be involved in the evaluation to ensure effective implementation and productivity.
