Youths have been advised to rise up from restiveness and political slumber and begin to do meaningful works for their wellbeing.
This statement was made by SOUTH-EAST YOUTHS FOR EQUITY ALLIANCE (SEYEA) while
the celebration this year’s International Youth Day with its theme “TRANSFORMING FOOD SYSTEM: YOUTH INNOVATION FOR HUMAN AND PLANETARY HEALTH.
However, the Nigerian and South-Eastern Youths were not left behind on such enlightenment where various states became agog with the celebration.
9News reports that Comr Ekeh Ifeanyi Chimezie of SEYEA was present at the invitation of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths to attend the Imo State Youth Summit in commemoration of the International Youth Day.
Meanwhile, the 2021 edition of International youth Day was organized by the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in partnership with Geehz Zillion Empire and in collaboration with the Imo State Government (Office of the SA on Youth Affairs).
While speaking with Newsmen, Comr Ekeh thanked Almighty God for the opportunity He gave Nigerian youths especially South-Eastern Youths to witness this year’s International Youth Day celebration.
In his words, ” irrespective of the prevailing threats orchestrated by the second and third wave of the Coronavirus pandemic, insecurity, economic meltdown, hardship, hunger and failed system in so many sectors of the Nation, the youths are hopeful for a better NIGERIA someday.
He further expressed a strong belief in the Nigerian Youths spirit, capable of turning the table around for the good of the Nation. He recalled that Nigeria got her independence through the unwavering efforts of the then Youths; many Kingdoms and empires were unable to be conquered during the slave trades all because of the resilient resistance by the then Youths; Nigeria after independence were bonded with unity, love and fairness which was made possible by the then youths who were in Government before the seed of ethnic bigotry was sowed by selfish politicians; Nigeria wrote its name in Sports history, all thanks to Nigeria Youths; Nigeria made history in Technology, same efforts of our Youths.
“I can go on and on to recount the blessings of Nigerian Youths to the Country and the world at large but time will not permit me, if Nigeria youths in time past can achieve all of these, I don’t think anything can stop the resilient spirit of our Youths in turning the narrative for a better, united and prosperous Nigeria where equity, justice and fairness dwells.
SEYEA President went on to entreat Nigerian Youths to be focused, patriotic and law-abiding. He charged them to develop and build themselves for a greater Nigeria while noting that the era of dependency on the Government for their self-development is over and such ideas should be thrown into the waste bin.
Nigeria Youths must start thinking of how to give to the Nation not what kind of money they should receive from the Government; how to create Jobs not which job is available for them to apply for; how to build synergies among fellow youths across various regions, ethnic or religious groups not how to fight each other; how to institute Justice, Equity and Fairness not how to be nepotistic, segregative or how to prevent justice; how to join in the fight against corruption not how to engage in corruption.
In the same vein, Comr Ekeh has called on the Government both at the centre, state and local governments levels to provide the necessary enabling environment for the youths such as Good road networks, 24/7 power supply, free or low cost and stable network provision for ICT, Security, favourable loan plans, quality Health and School systems.
Speaking on the theme of the year, Comr Ekeh reiterated the need for Nigeria Youths to embrace Agriculture with an innovative approach to help the Nation in its food chain network. He made emphasis on integrated innovative farming approach, a situation where one can not just go into cultivating a particular crop and stop at it rather he cultivates, harvest, process it into food and byproducts, employ package and repackaging approach, storage mechanism and as well as market systematics.
He maintained that if Nigerian Youths can make do with their fertile and level ground natural endowment, they will beat every other country of the world in meeting up with the vision 2030 global food security goals of the United Nations.
