There is palpable tension in Imo State following reports that thugs have invaded the State ahead of Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections.
A local tabloid in the State had reported last week that some desperate politicians have imported thugs into the State for the polls.
This is as IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu revealed on Radio Biafra that the ruling APC have assigned election riggers in the 27 local governments in the State.
Also there have been fears raised by the PDP that the State Governor, Rochas Okorocha who is backing his son in law, Uche Nwosu may have also imported thugs with fake police and army uniforms. The ‘APC had raised similar allegations.
Okorocha had been in the eye of the storm lately when he was accused by the Returning Officer, RO, for Imo West Senatorial elections, Innocent Ibeabuchi, of putting him (Ibeabuchi) under duress to declare him (Okorocha) winner of the Senatorial election.
Security agencies have been called upon to checkmate the influx of these thugs and ensure that the elections are free and fair.
