Jos: Gunmen have ambushed a joint security patrol in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing a Police inspector and Air Force corporal.
Sources told Nigerian Military Gallery that the attack occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on August 4, shortly after four security personnel drawn from two guard locations mounted a snap roadblock along the Ganawuri- Sabon Gida Road.
Two members of the security team reportedly failed to return to their duty posts, promoting troops to launch an immediate search and clearance operation.
Their bodies were later discovered at the scene of the attack, while their service rifles had been taken by the attackers. A motorcycle used by the patrol team was discovered.
Following the incident, security personnel launched a cordon-and-search operation across surrounding communities to track down the gunmen and recover the stolen weapons.
As of time of reporting, authorities had not officially released the identities of the slain operatives.
