Now, What is asthma, its symptoms, treatments regime and so on?

Asthma is a common condition that affects the airways (breathing tubes) in the lungs. People with asthma have sensitive airways that become inflamed when exposed to triggers. In people who have asthma, the airways narrow in response to stimuli (triggers) that usually do not affect the airways in people without asthma. During an asthma attack, the inflamed airways make it difficult to breathe which leads to symptoms like repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, nighttime or early morning coughing, possible anxiety and fear etc. Symptoms of a minor asthma attack get better with prompt home treatment. A severe asthma attack that doesn’t improve with home treatment can become a life-threatening emergency.

The key to stopping an asthma attack is recognizing and treating an asthma flare-up early and follow the treatment plan you worked out with your health care provider ahead of time.

The causes of asthma are unknown, but asthma likely results from complex interactions between many genes, environmental conditions, and nutrition. Environmental conditions and circumstances around pregnancy, birth, and infancy have been associated with the development of asthma in childhood and later in adulthood. Risk appears to be higher if a person’s mother became pregnant at a young age or had poor nutrition during pregnancy.

Risk may also be higher if someone is born prematurely, had a low weight at birth, or was not breastfed. Environmental conditions such as exposures to household allergens (such as dust mites, cockroaches, and pet dander) and other environmental allergens have also been associated with the development of asthma in older children and adults.

A peak flow meter is an inexpensive, portable, handheld device for those with asthma that is used to measure how well air moves out of the lungs. Measuring your peak flow using this meter is an important part of managing your asthma symptoms and preventing an asthma attack.

Homeopathic treatment of asthma is primarily constitutional. A practitioner will be particularly interested in an individual’s food preferences, their emotional makeup, and any significant environmental factors.

The choice of remedy will largely be determined by symptoms but certain remedies have an affinity with the respiratory tract, examples are;

• Arsen. alb.is indicated for bronchial constriction.

• Antimonium tart. for bronchial congestion.

• Bryonia is effective for the pain caused by irritation of the pleurae.

• Calc. carb. for ailments arising out of restrictions in the movement of the rib cage.

• Phosphorus is used for respiratory problems linked with anxiety.

For acute asthma, or to boost the immune system, the tubercular, psoric, or sycotic nosodes may be given.

Other remedies include Arsen. alb., for attacks in the early hours, with chilliness, restlessness, and a desire for sips of water, Ipecac., when there is persistent nausea; or Kali. carb., for asthma between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. causing exhaustion.

If the trigger is allergy, the effects of allergens can be reduced by isopathic remedies for example, by taking a remedy made from cat fur to treat sensitivity to cats.
