As the remains of Late Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu arrived Owerri the Imo state capital, heroes square was named after him to establish his edifice in the state as the first military governor of old Imo state in 1976.
This was done by the Executive governor of Imo state, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma at the burial ceremony.
Uzodinma however renamed the popular Heroes Square Stadium located around Imo Concorde Hotel Owerri, the State capital, after the late Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu, the first Military Administrator of the Old Imo State as courtesy demands.
The Governor disclosed this at a brief ceremony to receive the body of the Late Admiral Kanu on Wednesday at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, as part of activities to mark his Lying-in- State and Commendation Service at the Imo State Government House.
He further stated that the Late Military administrator of Imo State from 1976 to 1977 brought in a lot of developmental projects to the State, including the engagement of Town Planners for the development of the State.
In his words, “As we eulogize him for his outstanding performance as the Military Governor of Imo State, by an Executive Order, the Heroes Square is now renamed Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu’s Square”. Uzodimma Stated.
The reception of his corpse in Imo state was inline with the schedule of his burial to pay him the last respect as the first military governor of Imo state.
