In a political landscape often dominated by rhetorics, Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor; fondly known as Dum Dekor has emerged as a shining example of focused, community-driven leadership in the National Assembly.
Representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency of Rivers State, Dekor has demonstrated a never-ending commitment to legislative excellence, championing the rights of Nigeria’s oil-producing communities while reinforcing the political legacy of Rivers State’s foremost leader and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), His Excellency Nyesom Wike.
As Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities, Dekor has taken bold steps in advocating for justice, fairness, and infrastructure development in regions most affected by oil exploration.
His committee is currently at the forefront of critical oversight duties, monitoring the performance of Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs) and pushing for legislative clarity in the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

One of Dekor’s most significant legislative moves has been his call for the repeal of Section 257(2) of the PIA, a provision he argues unfairly places the burden of pipeline protection on host communities.
Through multiple committee hearings, he has demanded transparency and equity in how host communities are engaged and empowered.
“The current structure denies communities the protection and voice they deserve,” he remarked during a recent plenary.
Further affirming his commitment, Dekor introduced a Constitution Alteration Bill (HB 2301) on May 13, 2025.
While the full scope of proposed amendments remains under review, the bill clearly indicates his active legislative presence and willingness to contribute meaningfully to national discourse.
In June 2025, Dekor revealed he is championing a new bill to provide full statutory backing for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP); a federal initiative born from the UNEP report to address decades of environmental degradation in Ogoniland.
The bill aims to ensure sustained funding and institutional stability for HYPREP, marking a historic step for environmental justice in the region.
Moving beyond legislative duties, Hon. Dekor has consistently maintained strong ties to his constituency.
He has facilitated the installation of solar-powered boreholes, construction of rural roads, establishment of an ICT center at Birabi Grammar School in Bori, distribution of educational materials, entrepreneurship support programs, and advocacy against cultism and insecurity in Khana and Gokana LGAs.
Many stakeholders have widely acknowledge that Dekor’s political strength and administrative maturity reflect the imprint of a firm and visionary political leader, His Excellency Nyesom Wike.
As former Governor of Rivers State and now Minister of the FCT, Wike has been instrumental in nurturing and supporting competent leaders from the state, and Dekor stands as one of the brightest examples of that leadership pipeline.
Indeed, in multiple interviews, Dekor has praised Wike’s transformation of Rivers State and now the FCT.
“Leadership is about results, and Wike has consistently delivered, from infrastructure to inclusive governance,” he once stated.
His alignment with Wike’s progressive vision has brought Rivers State to national prominence and earned him the trust of both grassroots supporters and fellow lawmakers.
Hon. Dum Dekor’s reappointment as Chairman of the Host Communities Committee for the 10th National Assembly, and his active legislative sponsorship, mark him as one of the standout lawmakers in the current dispensation.
His trajectory reflects not only personal competence but also the strength of Rivers State’s political organization.
As Nigeria grapples with energy reforms, environmental justice, and community inclusion, voices like Hon. Dum Dekor’s are proving indispensable to the future of equitable development in oil-producing regions.
