How Bible story inspired Rolling Stones song

The song titled, ‘Prodigal Son’ by English rock band, The Rolling Stones was actually written by the country-blues guitarist and singer “The Reverend” Robert Wilkins.

This song reflects the parable of the prodigal son as found in the Book of Luke, more specifically in Luke 15:11–32 contained in the Bible.

The Stones came across the song in the 60’s with the original title, ‘That’s No Way To Get Along’.

The Context

The Prodigal Son is a story told in the Bible about a father who has two sons, which one asks for his inheritance early, ending up squandering the money and resources on irrelevant things.

After wasting his money and resources on selfish pursuits, he came back home repentant, with his father welcoming him with a feast.
