Nollywood Actress, Nse Ikpe-Etim makes shocking revelation of how she ended up as an actress despite her training in Theatre Arts, she never wanted to take acting as a career, she stated this when she said;
“I became an actress because I wanted to run away from marriage. After school, acting was not even in my plans. I just didn’t want to marry early. So I pácked a small bag and ran away from home.
I entered a bus, and instead of going to Satellite Town where we lived, I went the opposite way towards Badagry. Along the road, I saw some people with cameras. I came down from the bus and that was the first day I met Kate Henshaw. This was in 1996, the year I graduated.
They asked me what I studied, and when I told them Theatre Arts, they said Kate needed a friend in the movie. That was how I joined the set of Scárs of Womanhood and became friends with Kate. Till today, that friendship is still strong.
Meanwhile, my mother was looking everywhere for me. When I came back home after two weeks, she was very angry. She shóuted, ‘You will dîsgrace me!’ But I told her, ‘I don’t want to marry.’ She replied, ‘Over my déad body, not my daughter,you can’t be an actress you will get married, i refused and only got married when I wanted”
Etim got her first degree in Theater Arts from the University of Calabar.
In 2014, she won the Best Actress in a Drama award at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for playing “Nse” in Journey to Self.
