Nigeria Decides 2019: Let Us Be Calm

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation (with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Belarus), Prof Steve Ugbah has strongly urged the people of Benue State and indeed Nigerians not to be too disappointed in INEC but rather remain calm and supportive of the electoral process as INEC works to implement its new timelines. The Electoral body had announced the postponement of the 2019 general elections in the early hours of Saturday, February 16, 2019 citing hitches in its operational and logistic plans.

Notwithstanding the disappointment for many and huge economic losses incurred by Nigerians as a result of the shift in dates, it is better to give INEC another opportunity to make final preparations and ensure that the new election dates they have fixed are strictly observed in order to guarantee free, fair and credible elections.

I commend the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buahri, GCFR for reassuring Nigerians of his resolve to ensure elections are free, fair and credible under his watch and for showing understanding with INEC.

Finally, I call on all Nigerians of good conscience not to be discouraged by the postponement of the elections by INEC but to vote for all APC Candidates in the rescheduled polls. Nigerians, young and old, are quite aware that no Nigerian President in recent history can compare with President Buhari when it comes to personal integrity and official commitment to the war against corruption and poverty eradication. President Buhari strongly believes that few rich people have for too long cheated the poor in Nigeria and he is visibly dyed-in-the-wool to changing the situation even if that appears to have made him an enemy of the few rich and influential Nigerians.
