A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Amuwo Odofin constituency 01, Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, has said that he remain loyal to the PDP the party he said brought him into office in 2015. The lawmaker stated this when reacting to defection rumour of six of the eight PDP members of the Lagos State House of Assembly to the ruling All Progressive Congress APC.
Olorunrinu said the crisis in the party is not enough for him to defect to the APC more so that the crisis is not peculiar to the PDP. Though, there is an iota of truth in every rumour, we all represent different constituencies and we have our different goals. I have not decamped and I was shocked to read the news in the media. If anybody should decamp, he or she should be proud to declare it. APC is not the only party in Nigeria, there are others, such as, APGA and Labour Party. So, I see no reason for the noise. Nobody spoke to me about decamping or invite me to the APC. Immediately I joined the government, I know I belong to all the people in my constituency including those in the APC, Labour Party or APGA,” Olorunrinu stated.
The lawmaker who said he believed in accessibility and loyalty, maintained he owed the party that took him to office total loyalty. According to him, the party has done its best for him as there were others that could do it better before he was called upon to represent his constituency. He disclosed he was away from the country, when the news of the defection broke out saying he has no reason to leave the PDP now.
Asked why the Minority Leader in the House has not being able to ensure that the PDP members provide a formidable opposition to the ruling APC government, the lawmaker said he was not in a position to answer the question, saying the question should either be directed at the party or better still be put at the Minority Leader.
He however, said he believes in service delivery to his people, which he said has been his preoccupation since he got into office in 2015. Olorunrinu who disagreed with the notion in some quarters that the PDP could not win the Governorship election in Lagos State in 2019 said the crisis in PDP is not peculiar to the party and that anything is possible.
The lawmaker faulted the method the APC-led Federal Government is using to fight corruption, saying the noise being made over the matter is driving investors away. “You don’t announce that you want to chase armed robbers.
Announcing that you are fighting corruption is chasing investors away. I would also like the Federal Government to concentrate on the implementation of its policies and stop blaming the past administration,” Olorunrinu concluded.
